The practice values professionalism, compassion, and a patient-centered approach in every interaction. Role Description The Orthodontic Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in San Rafael, CA. This position supports the orthodontist in delivering clinical care, including preparing patients for procedures, assisting during orthodontic treatments, and managing chairside duties such as taking impressions, photographs, and digital scans. Daily responsibilities include sterilizing instruments, maintaining treatment rooms, organizing clinical supplies, and ensuring adherence to infection control and safety protocols. The role also involves communicating with patients and families about oral hygiene, appliance care, and treatment progress, as well as documenting clinical notes and updating patient records. The Orthodontic Assistant works closely with the orthodontist and administrative team to support efficient scheduling, smooth patient flow, and a positive experience at every visit.
Qualifications Clinical and technical skills:
Experience assisting with orthodontic procedures, taking impressions, x-rays, photographs, and digital scans, and managing sterilization and infection control.
Patient care and communication:
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to explain treatment steps and home care instructions clearly, and commitment to empathetic, professional patient interaction.
Organizational and administrative skills:
Accurate charting and documentation, basic computer literacy (practice management or EHR systems), and ability to support efficient scheduling and patient flow.
Teamwork and professionalism:
Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical and front office team members, follow office protocols, and maintain a reliable, punctual work style.
Education and credentials:
Completion of an accredited dental assisting program preferred; current dental assisting or orthodontic assisting certification and radiology license in California are highly beneficial.
Additional desirable qualifications:
Previous experience in orthodontic or dental practice, familiarity with orthodontic appliances and treatment stages, bilingual language skills, and commitment to ongoing learning in orthodontic care.
