Job Overview Bright Star Kids Academy (BSKA) is seeking a dependable, organized, and passionate Nutritionist/Cook to support the nutritional health and well-being of the children in our care. This position is responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks that meet USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines and Bright Star Kids Academy standards while maintaining the highest levels of food safety, cleanliness, and kitchen organization. The ideal candidate is committed to providing healthy, high-quality meals in a safe and sanitary environment and enjoys contributing to a positive learning environment for young children. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks according to the approved BSKA menu and meal schedule. Follow all USDA CACFP, Georgia DECAL, and Bright Star Kids Academy nutrition and food service requirements. Maintain proper food temperatures, storage, labeling, and inventory to ensure food quality and safety. Practice safe food handling, sanitation, and cleaning procedures in accordance with state and local health regulations. Keep the kitchen, food preparation areas, equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas clean, organized, and inspection-ready at all times. Receive, inspect, and properly store food deliveries and supplies. Monitor food inventory and notify administration when supplies need to be reordered. Accommodate approved food allergies and dietary restrictions as directed by administration and documented medical plans. Complete required meal production records, temperature logs, cleaning schedules, and other food service documentation. Assist with special events and classroom activities involving food when requested. Maintain a positive, professional attitude while working collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and support staff. Comply with all Bright Star Kids Academy policies and procedures regarding health, safety, confidentiality, and professionalism. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in food service, school nutrition, childcare, healthcare, or a commercial kitchen preferred. Current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification required. Knowledge of
USDA CACFP
meal requirements and food service best practices preferred. Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, food handling, and HACCP principles. Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and cleanliness. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and support staff. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a licensed childcare center or school nutrition program. Experience maintaining kitchen inventory, ordering supplies, and completing food service documentation. Knowledge of Georgia DECAL licensing requirements related to nutrition and food service.
