Carefree Spirits Distillery is seeking a polished, energetic, and highly organized Tasting Room & Hospitality Manager to lead the guest experience at our Cave Creek tasting room. This person will oversee daily operations, develop and host compelling events, lead and train the tasting room team, and help transform the space into a welcoming destination that guests want to revisit and recommend. The ideal candidate combines genuine hospitality with strong operational judgment and creative event-planning ability. They are equally comfortable greeting guests, bartending during a busy shift, coaching staff, building an event calendar, coordinating a private gathering, reviewing performance results, and stepping in wherever needed to keep the experience seamless.
ROLE SCOPE
This is a hands-on working-manager role focused on tasting room hospitality, events, guest experience, and operations, including bartending and guest-service coverage as needed. It does not include wholesale sales calls, retail account prospecting, or product-placement responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Guest Experience & Hospitality Leadership:
Lead a warm, polished, and consistent guest experience from arrival through departure.
Serve as the visible manager on duty during peak tasting room hours, special events, and private functions.
Provide hands-on tasting room coverage as needed, including bartending, leading spirit tastings, preparing cocktails, processing transactions, maintaining the bar area, completing opening and closing duties, and filling scheduled or unexpected staffing gaps.
Establish service standards for greeting, storytelling, tastings, cocktail service, check presentation, and guest recovery.
Respond thoughtfully to guest feedback and resolve concerns with professionalism and sound judgment.
Identify opportunities to improve the guest journey, increase repeat visits, and strengthen word-of-mouth referrals.
Event Programming, Private Bookings & Hosting:
Develop and maintain a strategic monthly and quarterly calendar of public tasting room events and experiences.
Create and host engaging concepts such as guided spirit tastings, cocktail classes, release celebrations, seasonal experiences, pairing events, community gatherings, charity events, and other brand-appropriate programming.
Manage private event inquiries from initial response through booking, planning, deposits, guest communication, staffing, setup, execution, and post-event follow-up.
Track event attendance, revenue, costs, profitability, guest feedback, and opportunities for improvement.
Team Leadership, Training & Scheduling:
Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate tasting room bartenders and hospitality staff.
Build staff schedules that support anticipated guest volume, reservations, events, and responsible labor management.
Lead ongoing training in product knowledge, storytelling, tasting etiquette, cocktail execution, responsible service, hospitality standards, and company values.
Set clear expectations, provide timely feedback, and cultivate a reliable, collaborative, and guest-focused team culture.
Maintain current training records and ensure required certifications are completed and renewed.
Tasting Room Operations & Financial Performance:
Oversee opening and closing procedures, reservations, point-of-sale practices, cash handling, cleanliness, safety, and facility readiness.
Maintain accurate operational records and provide regular reporting on guest counts, revenue, average check, event performance, private bookings, labor, inventory, and other agreed-upon metrics.
Establish practical procedures and checklists that improve consistency, accountability, and efficiency.
Support budget planning and manage controllable expenses within approved guidelines.
Cocktail Program & Experience Development:
Collaborate with leadership on seasonal cocktail menus, tasting formats, flights, pairings, and other guest experiences featuring Carefree Bourbon and Chakra Vodka.
Standardize recipes, presentation, preparation methods, pricing inputs, and staff training for all tasting room offerings.
Ensure cocktails, tastings, product displays, retail merchandise, and event materials are presented with consistent quality and brand alignment.
Gather guest and staff feedback to help refine menus and experiences over time.
Marketing & Community Coordination:
Coordinate closely with the marketing team by providing event details, deadlines, photos, recaps, and other information needed to promote tasting room programming.
Develop hospitality-focused relationships with local hotels, resorts, tourism organizations, event planners, chambers, nearby businesses, and community partners to support events and guest visitation.
Represent the tasting room professionally at relevant tourism, hospitality, and community functions when appropriate.
Serve as a Carefree Spirits brand ambassador at scheduled off-site tasting events throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area, including retail, community, and promotional events, as needed.
Ensure all public-facing event information is accurate, timely, and aligned with the Carefree Spirits brand.
Compliance, Safety & Responsible Service:
Ensure compliance with Arizona alcohol-service requirements, health and safety standards, company policies, and applicable local regulations.
Maintain a safe environment for guests and employees and address incidents promptly and appropriately.
Confirm that all staff members hold required certifications and follow responsible-service procedures.
Qualifications:
Three or more years of progressive experience in hospitality management, tasting room operations, restaurant or bar management, event venue management, or a closely related role.
Demonstrated experience planning, coordinating, and hosting successful public or private events.
Experience hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, and supervising front-of-house staff.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage daily operations and multiple event timelines simultaneously.
Excellent communication, guest-service, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of spirits, cocktails, beverage service, and inventory controls; bourbon and vodka knowledge is preferred.
Comfort using point-of-sale, scheduling, reservation, email, and basic reporting systems.
Must be at least 21 years old and hold or obtain Arizona Title 4 alcohol-service certification.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
Reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area for scheduled tasting events and brand ambassador assignments as needed.
Ability to remain on one's feet for extended periods and safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
