Hospice and Palliative Care of the Wood River Valley is seeking an experienced and compassionate Clinical Director to provide clinical leadership and help advance excellence in hospice and palliative care at our unique, non-government funded hospice in Sun Valley, Idaho. This rare model allows for exceptional flexibility in how you serve patients and families - free from excessive documentation, productivity quotas, and bureaucratic restraints. The Clinical Director serves as the organization's clinical expert in hospice and palliative care, providing leadership, mentorship, and professional guidance to the interdisciplinary team. This position focuses on clinical excellence, quality outcomes, staff development, and building strong relationships with physicians and healthcare partners. This is a primarily leadership and administrative position with no routine patient caseload . The Clinical Director serves as a clinical resource and mentor for staff while working closely with the Executive Director, Medical Director, and clinical leadership team to support exceptional, patient-centered care. Key Responsibilities Provide clinical leadership, mentorship, coaching, and guidance to nurses and the interdisciplinary team. Serve as a resource for complex clinical situations, symptom management, hospice eligibility, and goals-of-care discussions. Support staff in delivering consistent, compassionate, high-quality patient care. Collaborate with the Medical Director, attending physicians, specialists, and community healthcare providers. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with St. Luke's Health System and other referral partners. Develop and deliver orientation, ongoing education, and competency training for clinical staff. Mentor new clinicians and emerging clinical leaders. Lead recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, development, and retention of clinical staff. Provide high-level clinical management and conduct annual employee evaluations. Support quality improvement, chart reviews, clinical audits, and regulatory compliance. Assist with the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Provide clinical consultation and occasional direct patient support when needed. Participate in a limited clinical on-call rotation. Collaborate with the Executive Director and leadership team on clinical strategy, growth, and organizational initiatives. Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Idaho. Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of five years of hospice and/or palliative care experience, including progressive leadership responsibilities. Strong knowledge of hospice regulations, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and interdisciplinary care. Demonstrated expertise in symptom management, end-of-life care, and clinical mentoring. Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills. Preferred Qualifications Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN), or willingness to obtain certification within the first year of employment. Experience in clinical education, quality improvement, or staff development. Experience collaborating with physicians, hospitals, and community healthcare partners. Leadership experience within hospice or palliative care. Schedule This position is primarily administrative and leadership focused. The Clinical Director does not maintain a routine patient caseload but remains available for clinical consultation, staff mentoring, intermittent co-visits for patient and staff support, interdisciplinary meetings, staff education, and collaboration with the Executive Director and Medical Director. The position also participates in the clinical on-call rotation, typically one evening per week and one weekend per month , with flexibility to assist with additional on-call coverage when staffing needs require.
