Apply Overview Position Type Per Diem Job Shift Rotating Apply Qualifications Health Unit Coordinator General Summary:
The Unit Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the non-nursing support functions in the nursing unit including the maintenance of supplies and equipment, coordination with other hospital services and the performance of clerical related duties. Essential Job Functions•: Compiles medical record forms for admissions, discharges and expirations. Maintains proficient computers skills and serves as a resource for nursing and providers Assures that additional medical record forms (i.e. consults) are complete with the correct patient identification and placed in the chart when needed. Obtains patients previous medical records as required. Files diagnostic tests in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy. Notifies departments for specific tasks as needed (i.e. linen, maintenance etc.). Coordinates for prompt outside services, transfers, scans, ambulance services, etc., as requested, for maximum efficiency. Assures that EMTALA transfer forms are completed accurately. Collects and inputs data for quality assurance under the direction of the Nursing Director or designee. Maintains a neat, hazard free, well-organized working area. Assures that physicians, visitors and family members are received and greeted, providing accurate responses in a friendly and courteous manner. Performs other departmental secretarial tasks as needed (i.e. photocopying, faxing etc.) Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, assumes responsibility for their role in emergency situations such as codes. Attends and participates in hospital/departmental meetings as required. Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job. Demonstrates hospital's stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors. Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally. Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.
Qualifications:
Education Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
Medical Terminology course.
Work Experience Required:
Previous clerical experience which included computer use.
Preferred:
Experience in a health care setting.
Other Skills/Knowledge Required:
Computer literacy. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to set priorities and have excellent organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care. Share job details to
