RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Specific Competencies:

Use equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes and other lab equipment. Receive specimen/tissue from procedures, operating room, diagnostic procedures and/or other autopsy. Sort specimen according to priority and difficulty of procedures and records in pathology log. Embeds specimens into blocks and fixes tissue in formalin. Operates instrumentation for tissue dehydration, section clearing, impregnation with paraffin, cutting tissue section, and staining of slides.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Histotechnology program

Experience:

Minimum experience as a Histology Technician or have a minimum of one year of training under the direction of a registered

Licensing and Certification:

American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Histotechnologist (HTL)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g. face mask, goggles, latex/no latex gloves) as needed Ability to work effectively within the role independently and with other team members Ability to organize and complete work task in a timely manner Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in English Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Conditions common to a clinic environment including communicable disease, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and toxic substances, hazardous materials. Fast-paced medical office environment involving contact and interaction with patients, physicians, and other clinical and non-clinical personnel.
