Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Acute Care Assistant works under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide and assist with direct patient care services that do not require licensure. Primary tasks include patient hygiene, activities of daily living, nutritional support, vital signs, EKG's, ambulating and other basic patient care activities as directed. Maintains positive public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians and other staff members in a friendly and professional manner. Ensures the safe handling of infectious material(s) to protect all patients and employees.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
High School Graduate or GED required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred.
Knowledge:
Must have one of the following: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-2 Paramedic) experience, current enrollment in prerequisite courses in nursing school, current enrollment in Certified Nursing Assistant training, previous experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility or In-home care, clinical volunteer experience or equivalent combination of education or clinical experience. Military equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted. Acute Nursing Assistant experience preferred.
Skills:
The ability to read, write and communicate effectively. The ability to provide personal care to patients in a compassionate, caring manner. The ability to position and/or transfer patients.
