Let's Be Honest About This Job Being a DSP is not always easy. It can be challenging, demanding, unpredictable, and sometimes exhausting. The people we support are real people with real personalities, preferences, emotions, strengths, and bad days. Some have complex needs or behaviors that require patience, consistency, creativity, and a good sense of humor. You may walk into work with a plan and have that plan completely change five minutes later. You may have a difficult day. You may leave work tired. And then there are the really good days. You might watch someone learn something they couldn't do before. You might help someone try something new, make a friend, get a job, become more independent, or do something they've been working toward for months. You might spend your day laughing, going into the community, playing games, listening to music, shopping, eating lunch, or doing something completely unexpected. And sometimes, something that seems small to everyone else will feel like a huge accomplishment to you—because you know how hard that person worked to get there. That's what makes this job rewarding. What We're Looking For We aren't looking for someone who is perfect. We're looking for someone who is dependable, patient, teachable, responsible, and genuinely interested in people. You need to be able to: Show up consistently and be someone others can count on. Stay calm and professional when things get difficult. Follow through on your responsibilities. Communicate with your team and your supervisor. Complete documentation accurately and on time. Respect the people we support as adults—with their own choices, preferences, rights, and personalities. Encourage independence instead of simply doing things for someone. Be willing to learn, accept feedback, and grow. If you want work that is challenging, fun, meaningful, and genuinely makes a difference in someone's life, we'd love to meet you. Being a DSP isn't just about helping someone get through their day. It's about helping someone have a life.
