POSITION SUMMARY

The Sequencing Lab Technician supports routine sequencing production workflows that may include Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing (NGS), nanopore sequencing, and other sequencing methods. This is a hands-on, process-driven role for someone with strong basic laboratory skills, careful attention to detail, and an interest in learning multiple sequencing workflows. Prior experience with a specific sequencing platform is helpful but not required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform routine sequencing workflow steps according to established SOPs. Depending on the method, work may include sample or nucleic acid preparation, quantification, PCR or related amplification, library preparation, reaction setup, instrument setup or loading, and quality control.
• Process samples in batch or high-throughput settings while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, traceability, and reproducibility.
• Conduct routine quality-control procedures such as nucleic acid quantification, gel electrophoresis or fragment analysis, and review of basic sample, reaction, or sequencing-run metrics.
• Prepare reagents, buffers, and consumables according to laboratory protocols and production schedules.
• Accurately document sample status, workflow steps, quality-control results, and inventory information in laboratory tracking systems.
• Maintain, clean, and perform routine checks on laboratory instruments, equipment, and workspaces.
• Identify basic workflow or equipment issues, follow troubleshooting procedures, and escalate problems to senior staff when needed.
• Follow all SOPs, safety requirements, contamination-control practices, sample-specific handling procedures, and quality standards.
• Collaborate with sequencing, quality, logistics, and project teams to meet turnaround-time and production goals.
• Support workflow improvements and perform additional laboratory tasks or projects as assigned by the manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Associate degree or higher in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related life science field.
• At least 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience, preferably in a production, clinical, biotechnology, or academic laboratory.
• Experience with PCR, sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, reaction setup, or sequencing workflows is preferred but not required.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Laboratory Skills

• Strong basic laboratory technique, including accurate pipetting, careful sample handling, labeling, contamination prevention, and consistent adherence to written procedures.
• Basic understanding of molecular biology and sequencing concepts, with the willingness and ability to learn Sanger, NGS, nanopore, and other sequencing workflows used by the laboratory.
• Familiarity with common laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, spectrophotometers or fluorometers, pipettes, gel imagers, incubators, and shakers.
• Ability to perform repetitive, detail-oriented work and manage multiple samples without sacrificing quality.
• Comfort with Microsoft Excel and Word and with basic digital data entry and sample tracking. Professional Approach

• Willing and able to work the assigned Tuesday-through-Saturday evening schedule.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Exposure to Sanger sequencing, NGS, nanopore sequencing, library preparation, sequencing instruments, or high-throughput sample processing.
• Familiarity with liquid-handling or laboratory automation systems.
• Experience working under documented quality systems or in a production laboratory.

WORKING HOURS

• The scheduled shift is Tuesday through Saturday, either 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM or 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, based on operational needs.

Candidates must be available for the full assigned shift.

Pay:

$55,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
