Job Description

Research Technologist The Jackson Laboratory United States, Maine, Bar Harbor 600 Main Street (Show on map) Sep 01, 2026 The Research Technologist works under general supervision, the incumbent undertakes responsibilities in assisting scientists on the team in performing a combination of proteomic sample preparation and analysis, metabolite preparation and analysis, and routine laboratory maintenance responsibilities. Meticulous attention to detail and accurate record keeping are required. Incumbents are required to work flexible shifts that may occasionally include evenings and/or weekends depending on the demands of the research and/or laboratory operations

Responsibilities:

Routine/Non-Routine Laboratory Tasks

Instrument maintenance

Laboratory organization

Workstation and Laboratory sanitation

Inventory control and ordering

Working with laboratory information management system (LIMS)

Attendance at weekly group meetings

Experimental Support & Special Projects - Performing SOPs in the laboratory setting

Learning new experimental techniques through training by senior lab personnel as needed

Perform common lab techniques with a focus in protein extraction, metabolite extraction, and protein quantification

Use protein biochemistry methodology to process biological samples.

Detailed record keeping and report generation

Working in collaboration with other members of the Protein Sciences team

Regular, reliable and consistent attendance

Ability to meet flexible and changing demands including occasional hours in the evening and/or on weekends. Ability to work flexible schedule depending on research/operational needs

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Research Technologist - BS in the biological sciences or 2+ years work experience in which wet lab techniques were major job responsibilities

Capable of understanding and implementing laboratory protocols

Mass spectrometry experience, including related sample preparation and instrument maintenance, is a plus but not required.

Demonstrated ability to conduct experiments, interpret data and present finding

Conducts multiple experiments and is responsible for maintenance of equipment used in those experiments. Is organized, responsible and reports results clearly and efficiently to supervisor

Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple demands and work efficiently under pressure in a dynamic laboratory environment

Regular, reliable and consistent attendance

Demonstrated team player with professional, positive attitude and willingness to be flexible

Detail orientated, flexible, ability to multi-task and remain focused

Successful proven record of written and oral communication skills sufficient to permit clear and effective exchange of information

Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, web browser, and database software to record and report activities

Pay Range:

$18.59 - $29.51 per hour, based on experience.
