The Lab Technician performs a wide range of clinical laboratory procedures to support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing monitoring of patients at Trinity Health Kenmare Hospital. This role conducts testing across Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Clinical Microscopy, Immunology, and related laboratory areas, while also performing phlebotomy and specimen handling to ensure timely, reliable results. Working within a collaborative rural hospital environment, the Lab Technician partners closely with clinical staff to support comprehensive patient care. In addition to laboratory responsibilities, this position performs general radiology exams and completes EKG and Holter monitor procedures, contributing to integrated diagnostic services. This role promotes quality outcomes, patient safety, and regulatory compliance while supporting dependable 24/7 diagnostic coverage through participation in a rotating call schedule under supportive leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform clinical laboratory testing, analyze results, and follow established protocols to ensure accurate and timely diagnostic information. Collect blood specimens through phlebotomy, label and process samples, and maintain proper documentation and chain of custody. Conduct general radiology procedures as directed, ensuring proper patient positioning, image quality, and adherence to radiation safety standards. Perform EKG exams and Holter monitor hookups, verify tracings, and support provider interpretation by ensuring data accuracy. Maintain laboratory and radiology equipment, monitor quality controls, and document activities in accordance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Support inventory management, specimen transport, and daily workflow activities to keep both laboratory and imaging services operating efficiently.
The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching while performing laboratory tests, collecting specimens, and positioning patients for imaging procedures. The Lab Technician may lift or move equipment, supply boxes, and patientcare items of varying weight. Clear vision, hearing, and fine motor coordination are essential for performing detailed laboratory analyses, imaging tasks, and EKG procedures.
Environmental Requirements:
Work is performed in clinical laboratory, radiology, and patient care environments with potential exposure to biological specimens, chemicals, radiation, and disinfectants. The technician must adhere strictly to PPE use, infectionprevention practices, and radiationsafety protocols. The role may involve periods of high activity, urgent diagnostic needs, and participation in a rotating call schedule to ensure continuous patient service availability.
