Job Description
The following opportunity is offered through the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) . AEOP Internships and Fellowships are intended to provide participants with meaningful research opportunities within an U.S. Army Research Laboratory or Center. This specific opportunity is based at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. It is a paid research appointment and not a government position. This research position is within the United States Military Academy's (USMA) Department of Chemical and Biological Science and Engineering. The position will support an industry partner developing innovative 3D-printing technologies for ammonium perchlorate-based propellants using novel printer hardware and propellant formulations. A key focus of the research will be identifying and evaluating specialized propellant bonding agents needed to support the partner's technology. Researchers at the USMA laboratory will investigate potential new bonding agents, collect and analyze experimental data, and provide findings to the industry partner for further evaluation.
Typical responsibilities will include:
Conducting technical literature searches and reviewing relevant research. Performing Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) experiments. Conducting Instron tensile-strength measurements. Collecting, analyzing, and documenting experimental data. Supporting laboratory research and evaluation of potential bonding agents. Training on all required laboratory instrumentation and experimental techniques will be provided.
Application Notes Education:
Associate degree or higher in a science-related field.
Compensation:
Approximately $74,000 annually.

Materials research, energetic materials, and experimental laboratory work.
Experience:
Prior laboratory or materials-testing experience is helpful but not required, as training will be provided.
