Appropriate title and pay will be assigned based on Education and Experience A Brief Overview Follows laboratory policies and procedures to perform high and moderate complexity testing. Performs pre-analytical and post-analytical laboratory support functions. Demonstrates clear communication with team members to optimize laboratory operations What You Will Do Accurately and efficiently performs pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes for laboratory testing Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment according to manufacturer's instructions Performs and evaluates all required quality control assessments as described in departmental policies and procedures prior to reporting patient results. Evaluates results of laboratory tests according to laboratory protocols to ensure quality patient care. Documents all laboratory activities according to policies and procedures Maintains and demonstrates competency assessment in assigned area Takes responsibility for self-development and Completes all assigned mandatory assignments within allowed timelines. Is an active participant in departmental projects Collaborates with the laboratory supervisor to ensure laboratory compliance with all regulatory agencies by established standards Trains students and new team members, and is a resource for other technical team members Assesses competency of team members as assigned Additional Responsibilities Ability to keep organized Displays initiative to perform job duties Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to multi-task Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, customers, co-workers. Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members Knowledge of standard laboratory policies and procedures, safety practices, and laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Knowledge of regulatory standards and a good understanding of laboratory operations Initiates, solves problems, and troubleshoots issues independently. Works in multiple laboratory sections/disciplines independently (3 or more). Displays ability to effectively train students and new team members Good understanding of laboratory operations Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace. Education Associate's Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology (Required) Work Experience 2+ years experience in a highly complex laboratory setting within defined clinical disciplines i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Molecular, Microbiology, Histology, Cytology, etc. (Required) Licenses and Certifications Medical Lab Technician (MLT-ASCP) MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent preferred.
