Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Specimen Collector to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately collecting, processing, and managing biological samples to support diagnostic testing and patient care. Your expertise will help ensure the integrity of specimens, compliance with laboratory regulations, and excellent customer service for patients and healthcare providers alike. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to vital medical research, diagnostics, and patient outcomes through precise specimen collection and management. Responsibilities Collect a variety of biological specimens including blood, urine, saliva, cerebrospinal fluid, and other bodily fluids using proper techniques such as venipuncture and spinal taps. Follow strict aseptic techniques and laboratory procedures to prevent contamination and ensure sample integrity. Accurately label, document, and process specimens in accordance with CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations and hospital policies. Operate laboratory information systems (LIS) for data entry, specimen tracking, and maintaining detailed records of collection activities. Maintain patient confidentiality by adhering to clinical confidentiality policies and handling all information securely. Communicate effectively with patients to explain procedures, answer questions, and provide compassionate customer service. Ensure proper biological sample management by storing specimens at appropriate temperatures and preparing them for transport or further analysis. Assist in laboratory management tasks such as inventory control of supplies and maintaining cleanliness of the collection area. Support research laboratory activities by adhering to research protocols and documenting procedures meticulously. Experience Prior experience in a medical or research laboratory setting involving specimen collection or processing is highly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory management systems (LIS), medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical procedures such as phlebotomy and catheterization. Hands-on experience with venipuncture techniques, spinal taps, pediatric collections, and veterinary terminology is advantageous. Familiarity with CLIA regulations, hospital laboratory workflows, and maintaining clinical confidentiality policies is essential. Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations while providing excellent customer service. Experience working within a hospital environment or clinical setting that emphasizes safety protocols like basic life support (BLS) certification is desirable.
