Job Summary:
LVN's are responsible for providing basic care to patients in many different settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers. They are also responsible for following physician's orders and accurately documenting patient visits and treatments. As such, an LVN should have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The following job description outlines the specific duties and qualifications necessary for prospective LVN's.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitor patients' vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
Administer medications and injections as prescribed by healthcare providers.
Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, and eating.
Collect samples for lab tests and perform basic lab procedures.
Provide wound care and change dressings.
Document patient information and care provided in medical records.
Communicate with patients and their families about care plans and medical conditions.
Support RNs and doctors during medical procedures and exams.
Observe patients and report any changes in conditions to supervising healthcare providers.
Ensure a clean and safe environment for patients.
Education and Requirements:
Completion of an accredited vocational nursing program.
Current LVN license in the state of employment.
Some experience in a medical setting preferred.
