Job Description

Job Overview:
This is a fully on-site position — it is not remote or hybrid. The Certified Coding Specialist will work Monday through Friday, 5 days per week, at our La Grange, IL office. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to La Grange, IL. As Certified Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately assigning appropriate medical codes to diagnoses, procedures, services, and post charges for claim submission. Your primary duties will include reviewing medical records, extracting relevant information, assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and ensuring compliance with coding guidelines, federal regulations, and payer policies.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for physician services and procedures.
  • Ensure coding compliance with payer policies, CMS regulations, and industry standards.
  • Ensure accurate and timely coding of encounters to facilitate proper reimbursement and claims processing.
  • Review medical documentation for completeness and accuracy to support code selection.
  • Participate in coding audits and quality assurance activities to maintain coding accuracy and integrity.
  • Communicate with providers regarding coding clarification, documentation improvement, and billing compliance.
  • Assist with denial management related to coding and documentation issues.
  • Stay current on coding updates, payer policies, and regulatory changes relevant to dermatology coding.
  • Provide coding-related education and training to healthcare providers and staff as needed.
  • Provide support to billing staff in resolving billing inquiries, answering phone calls, take and post patient payments, and responding to inquiries from patients, insurance representatives, and internal leadership.
  • Batch and submit medical claims to insurance companies, government payers, and other third-party payers in accordance with billing guidelines and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of billing activities, correspondence, and account resolution efforts in EHR and/or billing software.
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Current certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCA, CCS, CDC, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding for dermatology services.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and dermatology-specific procedures and diagnoses.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding and documentation review.
  • Knowledge of insurance guidelines, payer policies, compliance standards, and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with EHR and coding software; Nextech experience preferred.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other teams.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in coding practices.
