  • Contract Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Interim Emergency Department Manager to oversee the daily operations of the emergency services department of a critical access hospital.
This leadership role is vital in ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care, regulatory compliance, and efficient departmental functioning during a transitional period. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in acute care settings, demonstrate strong management capabilities, and have a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulations and medical procedures. This is a hands on role. Duties Provide immediate leadership and supervision for emergency department staff, ensuring smooth shift management and optimal team performance. Oversee patient care processes, including triage, treatment protocols, and discharge procedures, maintaining adherence to best practices and regulatory standards. Ensure compliance with all health regulation policies, HIPAA privacy laws, and state healthcare regulations to safeguard patient rights and confidentiality. Review medical records, documentation, and care plans regularly to uphold accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate effective case management, patient monitoring, and quality improvement initiatives. Manage departmental resources efficiently by overseeing budgeting activities, supply inventory, and staffing schedules. Lead efforts in regulatory audits, accreditation processes, and continuous quality improvement projects to enhance service delivery. Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems for documentation review, data analysis, and reporting purposes. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and professional development through effective communication and team management strategies. Address complex clinical situations involving physiology knowledge, surgical nursing expertise, or acute care scenarios with confidence and clarity. Skills Extensive critical care experience with a strong background in emergency medicine or acute hospital settings. Proven supervising experience with demonstrated leadership in healthcare environments. In-depth knowledge of health regulation policies including HIPAA and state healthcare regulations. Proficiency in EMR systems along with medical terminology understanding for accurate documentation review. Strong nurse management skills coupled with expertise in patient care standards across various specialties such as perioperative care or hospice care. Excellent managerial communication skills to effectively lead teams and coordinate with hospital administration. Familiarity with home health agency operations, assisted living facilities, or home care services is advantageous. Ability to manage shift schedules efficiently while ensuring compliance with Medicare requirements and residents' rights. Competence in budgeting, project leadership, regulatory compliance initiatives, and quality improvement processes. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to emergency medical procedures; ability to adapt quickly to diverse clinical scenarios.
