As a vital member of the Hospice of Lansing clinical team the Music Therapist is responsible for providing therapeutic interventions to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. The music therapist helps to ensure patient support is coordinated and managed appropriately. This role ensures that hospice care is delivered with compassion, excellence, and in accordance with regulatory standards. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities Evaluates patients' functional status and assesses patients' response to music, music preferences, music skills and cultural factors. Develop, administer, and coordinate music activities and programs in accordance with state and federal regulations. Implement music activities that facilitate non-musical goals (e.g. sensory stimulation, memory recall, positive failure, socialization, etc.) Monitor the conditions of musical instruments. Works as part of the interdisciplinary team to care plan in determining therapeutic objectives and goals. Develops, oversees, and coordinates staff wellness/support activities with the leadership team. Provides help in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and family/caregiver care to all clinical personnel as indicated. Assures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding licensure and certification of organization personnel and maintains compliance with hospice standards. Assists in the development of organization goals. Develops, recommends, and administers organizational policies and procedures within the leadership team. Position Qualifications Degree in Music Therapy or related field. Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC) Two years of music therapy experience and/or hospice experience. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state guidelines and is in good working order. Must have liability insurance on your vehicle. Has excellent observation, verbal, and written communication skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with employees, patients and families. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and discretion. Stays informed about changes in the field of music therapy and hospice care, shares information with appropriate organization personnel.
