Parker Family Medicine & Metabolic Health

Nurse Practitioner

Job Description

Parker Family Medicine & Metabolic Health is one of the region's premier medical clinics specializing in primary care and obesity medicine. By blending evidence-based modern medicine with time-honored values such as compassion, integrity, and professionalism, we partner with patients to improve their health and overall well-being in a supportive environment without weight stigma or shame. For more than 12 years, our practice has provided comprehensive obesity medicine and has become a trusted referral center for physicians throughout northern Alabama and southern Tennessee. The practice is led by a board-certified obesity medicine physician who holds national leadership and editorial roles in the field. We are seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Family Nurse Practitioner to become the fourth CRNP on our clinical team. About the Position This is a true family medicine position that includes acute care, preventive medicine, and the management of common and complex chronic conditions. Obesity medicine is also a substantial and important part of our practice. Previous experience in obesity medicine is not required, but a genuine interest in the field is essential. Practice-based training will be provided through experienced clinicians, educational resources, and physician collaboration. Our approach to obesity medicine is comprehensive and evidence-based. It is not a medication-only or quick-fix weight-loss program. Care includes medical evaluation, treatment of related metabolic disease, nutrition and behavioral counseling, pharmacotherapy, and helping patients navigate medication access and insurance limitations. We welcome experienced practitioners as well as exceptional new graduates who demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, dependability, and a strong desire to learn. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive primary care and obesity medicine services. Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute illnesses and chronic medical conditions. Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans. Manage conditions including obesity, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and related cardiometabolic disease. Educate patients regarding disease prevention, nutrition, physical activity, behavior change, medication use, and long-term health. Prescribe and monitor medications within the scope of Alabama law and the practice's collaborative agreement. Order, interpret, communicate, and follow up on laboratory testing, imaging, and other diagnostic studies. Complete clinical documentation, patient messages, refill requests, results, and other follow-up responsibilities accurately and promptly. Collaborate with the physician and other clinicians regarding complex cases, treatment decisions, and appropriate referrals. Provide compassionate, respectful care without weight bias, judgment, or shame. Qualifications Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program. Current national board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. New graduates must be eligible for national certification and preparing to sit for the certification examination. Employment is contingent upon passing the examination and completing all required licensure before beginning clinical practice. Current Alabama RN and CRNP licensure, or eligibility to obtain both. Eligibility to enter an Alabama collaborative practice agreement. Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills. Excellent communication, organization, documentation, and follow-through. Ability to manage a full and varied outpatient schedule following appropriate orientation and training. Genuine interest in both primary care and obesity medicine. Previous outpatient experience in family medicine, internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes care, metabolic disease, or obesity medicine is preferred but not required. Experience with eClinicalWorks or a similar electronic health record is also preferred. This is a busy medical practice. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, efficient, dependable, and committed to completing documentation and clinical follow-up in a timely manner. Schedule Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Friday, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. No call responsibilities. Benefits Employer-paid health insurance for the employee, with family coverage available for purchase. 401(k) retirement plan. Dental and vision insurance available. Competitive paid time off. Training and professional development in obesity medicine. Consistent weekday clinic schedule.
