Job Description

About Heelex Heelex is a physician-owned specialty practice combining podiatry, musculoskeletal medicine, and low-dose radiation therapy for benign inflammatory and degenerative conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, and arthritis. We were the first clinic in the United States dedicated to benign low-dose radiation therapy and now operate busy, high-volume practices in Arizona and Tennessee. Our Surprise clinic brings podiatry and benign radiation treatment together under one roof. We are looking for an experienced Physician Assistant with a background in orthopedics, sports medicine, podiatry, foot and ankle, or a similarly procedural musculoskeletal practice . This is an unusual opportunity for a PA who enjoys hands-on outpatient medicine. Most of your week will involve podiatry and foot-and-ankle patients , while you will also participate in our benign radiation program under the supervision of our radiation oncologist. Our podiatry practice is already busy. You will work closely with our on-site podiatrist, with dedicated clinical support, and gradually assume your own patient schedule as you become comfortable with the practice. What You'll DoPodiatry / Foot & Ankle — Most of Your Week Evaluate and treat a high volume of outpatient foot-and-ankle patients. Manage common musculoskeletal and podiatric conditions including heel pain, plantar fasciitis, Achilles and other tendinopathies, arthritis, forefoot pain, and other nonsurgical foot-and-ankle disorders. Manage follow-up visits on established treatment plans, including injection series, orthotic fittings and checks, diabetic foot exams, routine and at-risk foot care, wound checks, and postoperative follow-up. Perform office-based procedures such as corticosteroid injections, soft-tissue and joint injections, nail procedures, callus and corn paring, wound debridement, splinting, and DME dispensing. Order and interpret appropriate imaging and laboratory studies. Recognize patients who require escalation to the podiatrist for surgical evaluation, complex pathology, or other problems outside your scope or experience. Develop increasing autonomy over your clinic schedule as your familiarity and comfort with the practice grow. Provide clinical coverage for appropriate podiatry patients when the podiatrist is away. Identify patients whose chronic musculoskeletal condition may be appropriate for evaluation by our benign radiation program. Benign Radiation Therapy Program You will also help care for patients receiving low-dose radiation therapy for benign musculoskeletal conditions. No radiation oncology experience is required. We will train you.
Your role will include:
Seeing patients during their course of treatment and assessing how they are doing clinically. Evaluating the treatment site and addressing routine patient questions or concerns. Performing musculoskeletal follow-up assessments before, during, and after treatment. Communicating directly with the supervising radiation oncologist when physician input is needed. Assisting with documentation and coordination of care between podiatry and radiation oncology. Radiation treatment planning, prescribing, and medical direction remain the responsibility of the radiation oncologist. This portion of the position is generally low-acuity and highly protocolized. Who We're Looking ForRequired Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. NCCPA certification. Active Arizona PA license, or ability to obtain Arizona licensure before starting. At least 2 years of PA experience in one or more of the following: Orthopedics, Foot and ankle, Podiatry, Sports medicine, Musculoskeletal medicine, Urgent care with substantial orthopedic experience, Wound care Meaningful hands-on experience performing joint and/or soft-tissue injections . Comfortable evaluating musculoskeletal complaints and reviewing plain-film imaging. Comfortable performing office-based procedures. Able to function efficiently in a busy outpatient specialty practice. Good clinical judgment regarding when to manage independently and when to escalate to the podiatrist or supervising physician. Especially Interested In Candidates With Prior orthopedic PA experience , particularly foot-and-ankle. Prior podiatry practice experience. Experience with plantar fasciitis, tendinopathy, arthritis, injections, splinting, orthotics, or postoperative orthopedic care. Wound care experience or certification. Experience working in a physician-owned specialty practice. Bilingual English/Spanish skills. Why This Position Is Different This is not a general primary-care PA position.
