Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive mental health services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients across diverse populations. Your expertise will help improve patient outcomes by delivering evidence-based psychiatric care in a collaborative environment that emphasizes holistic wellness and recovery. Duties Conduct thorough psychiatric and behavioral health assessments, including mental status examinations, medication reviews for patients of all ages, including pediatrics and geriatrics. Screen and treat anxiety, depression, trauma‑related disorders, mood disorders, and other behavioral health conditions. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating psychotherapy, medication management, and other therapeutic modalities aligned with best practices and clinical guidelines. Provide medication management and ongoing psychiatric follow‑up care Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications in compliance with HIPAA regulations and DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) standards. Collaborate closely with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and ensure comprehensive treatment approaches. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems (Simple Practice) for accurate and timely clinical documentation of patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes. Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications to promote recovery and resilience. Requirements Valid Iowa state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-ARNP). DEA registration or eligibility to obtain, with authority to prescribe controlled substances Certification with State of Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners for Certificate of Registration Iowa Controlled Substance Act. Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations including children and seniors. Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology, behavioral health interventions, and diagnostic evaluation tools including ICD-10 coding standards. Ability to perform physical examinations related to mental health assessments and manage urgent psychiatric situations effectively. Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams in outpatient clinics, hospitals, or community health settings. Excellent client communication skills combined with critical thinking abilities to develop effective treatment strategies. This role is supported through a federal rural healthcare workforce initiative funded by CMS/HHS , designed to expand access to behavioral health services in underserved areas. Because of this support, the position includes recruitment incentives of up to $120,000 and requires a five‑year, full‑time, in‑person commitment to serving rural Iowa.
