Position:

Hands-on supervision and support of the efforts of six full-time and three part-time seasonal employees in the areas of mowing and grounds maintenance. Advise, direct and assist the supervisor in each of these areas daily Carry out, evaluate and improve existing management plans for all properties Maintain inventory of supplies and other items needed to carry out management plans. Evaluate and update records regarding annual bulk orders of supplies Design seasonal plans for planting and other landscape improvements Provide leadership and assistance with pesticide and other chemical applications Carry out, and model behavior for, all applicable safety and quality programs. Share responsibility of running monthly safety meetings with the other leaders in the Park Operations Area Coordinate with the other leaders on sharing equipment and on special events, large projects or emergencies Assist the Associate Director of Park Operations with park tree inventories and hazard evaluations, as well as tree planting projects Handle recruitment, selection and training for any vacant full-time or seasonal positions Motivate, lead and evaluate the performance of employees reporting to Assistant Grounds Team Leader position Coordinate with other park teams to support the mission of providing the highest quality park and recreation services Pursue continuous improvement in all phases of grounds management Must be proficient with technology, including the ability to operate computers, software applications, and the department's work order management system Represent the Parks and Recreation Department in a professional and friendly manner Perform all other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

High school education and/or G.E.D. Four years of grounds maintenance experience or related work Certified arborist and/or accredited plantsman preferred Certified pesticide applicator - 3A, 3B within one year Valid Indiana driver's license, maintained at all times, and good driving sufficient to be a driver covered by

Working Conditions:

Exposure to more than ordinary conditions Considerable physical effort Frequent exposure to weather, dirt and dust Hours will vary and days will vary. Essential Physical Requirements:

Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects Lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or greater on a daily, weekly or monthly basis Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls See details of objects that are less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away Work for extended periods without getting tired or out of breath Bend, stretch, twist, or reach out Sufficient balance to climb and remain on ladders and other equipment safely Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects Adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes of moving objects Must reside in Bartholomew County or adjoining county within six (6) months of employment.
