From selecting and facilitating transportation of dogs to preparing adoption documentation and managing day-to-day dog-human interactions, this role will ensure that every part of the experience supports successful adoptions and positive guest experiences. Though the health, safety, and well-being of the adoptable dogs will always be our highest priority, this position will also have a strong focus on customer service, guest experience, and successful adoptions. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable advocating for the needs of an animal, welcoming and educating guests, managing a busy environment, and navigating the unique dynamics that come with bringing dogs and people together in a hospitality setting. It will be essential to have an adaptable, solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to embrace change, identify opportunities for improvement, and help build effective systems along the way. Qualifications 3+ years of experience handling and caring for dogs in a pack setting, or equivalent experience. Experience managing, supervising, or training staff is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of canine behavior, body language, group dynamics, and safe handling techniques. Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 40+ pounds. Reliable transportation and punctual attendance. Schedule This position opens and closes the business as needed, covers gaps in shifts, and maintains office hours when necessary. During the first year, it is expected that this position will be a scheduled member on shift, working week-day, weekend, and Holidays shifts as needed, in order to support daily operations and develop a thorough understanding of the facility and its routines.

Operations Management:

The Tail End Manager is responsible for operations of the Tail End (Tail End indoor seating area, kennel room, and patio/yard) including but not limited to: all Tail End open and closing duties, first and last potty breaks of the day, cleaning tasks, preparing and administering meals and medications, inventory management, and collaboration and development of protocols and SOP's. Assist with all areas of operation as needed, including serving as Manager on Duty when necessary. Monitor staff to ensure they are following in-house protocols. Coordinate closely with community partners, shelters, and their staff to facilitate adoptions, special events, and more. Ensure that Tail End procedures are compliant with local, state, and federal regulations, including alcohol service laws. Ensure health, safety, and sanitation standards are consistently upheld. Implement prompt adjustments to protocol, training, and facility flow when concerns arise. Report and investigate (if needed) any dog, guest, or staff-involved incidents.

Staffing:

Cultivate a workplace culture built on respect, teamwork, accountability, and compassion, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for staff and the dogs in our care. Facilitate and oversee initial training for Tail End staff related to dog handling and care, customer interactions, approved intervention tactics, safety protocols, routines, and more. Maintain accurate training records, monitor employee progress, evaluate competency, and ensure timely completion of all required training. Coordinate with the Hair of the Dog General Manager to create and resolve staffing schedules. Monitor staff communication apps, answer questions, and address concerns with management if needed.

Adoptions:

Ensure adoption protocols are being followed to meet shelter partners and in-house record needs. Coordinate with shelter partners to maintain a minimum number of adoptable dogs in our facility. Provide and coordinate transport of dogs to and from the shelter and veterinary providers when necessary. Determine intake process and care plans for incoming dogs, noting and adjusting to any special needs or concerns presented by our shelter partners. Facilitate adoptions and placement. Discuss placement needs with adoption staff, handlers, and potential adopters. Schedule and facilitate Meet & Greets between adopters, their own dogs, and adoptable dogs at our facility. Marketing and Community Engagement Contribute to and monitor staff communication apps. Communicate collaboration opportunities and events with the General Manager. Attend events as a representative of Hair of the Dog Café when necessary.
