As a Medical Surgical Charge Nurse, you'll provide clinical leadership and operational oversight while helping ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. Working alongside physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care team members, you'll coordinate daily department operations, support staff, promote efficient patient flow, and serve as a clinical resource for the Medical Surgical team. What You'll Do Coordinate daily Medical Surgical unit operations to support efficient, patient-centered care delivery. Assign staffing resources and patient care responsibilities based on patient acuity, census, and department needs. Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff, providing guidance, support, and expertise. Monitor patient safety, quality indicators, and compliance with established standards of care. Collaborate with providers, case management, therapy services, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care plans. Support patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and throughput processes. Assist with staffing adjustments, workflow coordination, and resolution of operational challenges. Promote effective communication among team members, patients, families, and providers. Support staff development, education, and professional growth initiatives. Respond to patient care concerns and assist with complex clinical situations. Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and excellence throughout the department. What You'll Bring Required Qualifications Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure. Previous Medical Surgical nursing experience. Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills. Demonstrated leadership and communication abilities. Ability to effectively prioritize and coordinate multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and fostering a positive team culture. Preferred Qualities Previous charge nurse or leadership experience. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Experience with patient flow coordination and staffing oversight. Certification in Medical Surgical Nursing preferred. Regular use of clinical equipment, computer systems, and electronic medical records. Ability to respond quickly in patient care and emergency situations. Frequent interaction with patients, families, providers, and staff. May require lifting, transferring, repositioning, or assisting patients. Education, Certifications & Licensure Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced certifications relevant to Medical Surgical nursing preferred. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
