Essential Duties and Responsibilities In this role you will be: Cardiovascular Registries and Data Management Coordinates and maintains departmental participation in applicable cardiovascular registries.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinate data collection, validation, submission, and follow-up for cardiovascular registries, including: CathPCI Registry ICD Registry Chest Pain Center/Chest Pain Registry requirements Ensure registry data is accurate, complete, timely, and consistent with medical record documentation. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, cardiovascular staff, medical records, quality, and information technology personnel to resolve data discrepancies. Monitor registry performance measures and identify trends or opportunities for improvement. Communicate registry results and performance trends to appropriate department and organizational leadership. Maintain knowledge of registry specifications, definitions, reporting requirements, and changes in standards. Registry Audits and Quality Data Validation Provides leadership and coordination for registry audits and external data validation activities. Coordinate preparation for Q-Centrix and other applicable registry audits. Ensure required documentation and supporting medical records are available for audit. Review registry data for accuracy and completeness prior to submission. Investigate identified discrepancies and coordinate corrective action. Daily Department Operations Staffing and Scheduling Coordinate daily staffing assignments based on patient volume, procedural requirements, staff competencies, call responsibilities, and patient acuity. Assist with staff scheduling, time-off requests, call schedules, and schedule adjustments. Assist with contingency planning for unexpected staffing or volume changes. Provider Scheduling Coordinate physician/proceduralist schedules in collaboration with physicians, APPs, anesthesia, and other applicable departments. Promote efficient utilization of procedural rooms and resources. Identify scheduling conflicts and facilitate resolution. Department Audits Conduct routine clinical, operational, safety, documentation, and regulatory audits. Monitor compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and standards. Develop or assist with corrective action plans when deficiencies are identified. Monitor compliance following implementation of corrective actions. Performance Evaluations Responsible for employee performance management and annual performance evaluations. Provide timely feedback regarding employee performance, professional development, and competencies. Identify performance concerns to develop appropriate improvement plans. Recognize and support high-performing staff. Orientation and Training Coordinate and/or facilitate orientation for new Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory personnel. Coordinate ongoing education based on identified departmental needs, changes in technology, procedures, policies, and standards. Support continuing education and professional development opportunities. Develop, coordinate, and maintain competency validation processes for Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory personnel. Ensure staff competencies are validated initially and at required intervals. Maintain documentation of required competencies. Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement Provides leadership and coordination for quality improvement and performance improvement activities within the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Monitor departmental quality and performance metrics. Identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring improvement. Coordinate quarterly quality/performance improvement meetings. Prepare agendas, reports, dashboards, and supporting data for quarterly meetings. Provide monthly updates regarding quality indicators, registry performance, operational metrics, and ongoing improvement initiatives. Lead or participate in performance improvement activities using appropriate improvement methodologies. Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to address identified quality or patient safety concerns. Monitor outcomes associated with performance improvement initiatives. Develop and implement action plans when performance does not meet established targets. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. Potential areas of focus may include: Door-to-balloon time Procedure delays Procedure cancellations Contrast-related complications Acute kidney injury Bleeding and vascular complications Medication safety Radiation safety Infection prevention Patient throughput Patient experience Procedural efficiency Mortality and morbidity Readmissions Appropriate utilization of resources Materials Management Provides oversight and coordination of procedural supplies and materials utilized by the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Procedural Supplies Monitor inventory levels and availability of procedural supplies. Coordinate ordering and utilization of supplies to maintain appropriate inventory while minimizing waste. Maintain familiarity with supplies used for: Cardiac procedures Peripheral vascular procedures Electrophysiology procedures Pacemaker procedures ICD procedures Ensure appropriate supplies are available for scheduled and emergent procedures. Coordinate and/or oversee restocking of procedural supplies. Monitor expiration dates, storage requirements, and appropriate rotation of inventory. Value Analysis Participate in the Value Analysis Team and product review processes. Coordinate clinical review of new products and technologies. Gather staff and physician feedback regarding product performance. Evaluate products based on quality, clinical effectiveness, safety, standardization, utilization, and cost. Budget Management Supports the Manager and cardiovascular leadership in the development, monitoring, and management of departmental budgets. Operating Budget Assist with development and monitoring of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory operating budget. Monitor staffing, supply, equipment, and other operating expenses. Review monthly financial reports and identify significant trends. Capital Budget Assist with development of the annual capital budget. Identify equipment replacement and technology needs. Develop supporting information and justification for capital requests. Budget Variances Monitor and investigate significant budget variances. Identify contributing factors and develop corrective strategies. Equipment Management Coordinates the ongoing assessment, maintenance, utilization, and replacement of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory equipment. Equipment Procurement Assess departmental equipment needs based on clinical requirements, patient volume, technology changes, equipment condition, and staff feedback. Coordinate implementation and staff education related to new equipment. Service Agreements Monitor equipment service agreements and warranties. Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering, Information Technology, vendors, and other appropriate departments regarding equipment issues. Track service concerns and follow up to ensure timely resolution. Equipment Assessment Conduct routine assessment of existing equipment for functionality, safety, reliability, and clinical appropriateness. Identify aging, obsolete, or frequently malfunctioning equipment. Preventive Maintenance Monitor compliance with required preventive maintenance schedules. Collaborate with Biomedical Engineering and vendors to ensure required maintenance is completed. Clinical Leadership and Patient Safety Serve as a clinical resource and role model for Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory staff. Support safe patient identification, medication administration, procedural verification, and handoff processes. Promote compliance with infection prevention, radiation safety, contrast safety, emergency preparedness, and patient safety standards. Participate in review of adverse events, near misses, safety concerns, and procedural complications. Promote a culture in which staff are encouraged to identify and report on safety concerns. Maintain current knowledge of cardiovascular procedures, technology, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. Regulatory, Accreditation, and Compliance Support compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards. Assist with preparation for regulatory, accreditation, certification, and internal audits. Maintain departmental readiness for surveys and inspections.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
EDUCATION
BSN preferred Additional education or certification related to cardiovascular services, leadership, or healthcare management preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of [3-5] years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in cardiac catheterization, cardiovascular procedural services, critical care, emergency care, or a related specialty. Previous charge nurse, clinical coordinator, educator, or supervisory experience preferred. Experience with cardiovascular registries and quality improvement preferred. Experience with CathPCI, ICD, Chest Pain Center, or related cardiovascular quality programs preferred. Experience with staff education, competency validation, performance improvement, and regulatory readiness preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
BLS certification required ACLS certification and dysrhythmia required Licensure as an RN in Pennsylvania Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification preferred Additional cardiovascular or specialty certification preferred.
