Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students by supporting their independence and mobility skills. This contract assignment involves working closely with students who have visual impairments, providing expert orientation and mobility training within a supportive educational environment. You'll collaborate with educators and families to create individualized programs that empower students to navigate their world with confidence.
Qualifications and Experience:
Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or equivalent credentials required Experience working with school-aged students with vision impairments preferred Strong knowledge of assessment tools, adaptive devices, and mobility techniques Ability to develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility goals Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working across multidisciplinary teams Flexibility, empathy, and a commitment to fostering student success
Responsibilities:
Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students in various educational settings Design and implement individualized plans to help students improve independence Teach cane skills, safe travel techniques, and the use of adaptive mobility equipment Instruct on navigation strategies for school, home, and community environments Collaborate with teachers and families to seamlessly integrate mobility training into daily routines Monitor progress, update goals, and maintain accurate documentation Offer guidance and training to staff and caregivers as needed Step into a valued role where your expertise will be celebrated and your insights will influence student growth.
