A full-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) position is available in Orlando, FL for the upcoming school year. Role:
This position focuses on teaching students who are blind or visually impaired how to travel safely and independently in school, home, and community environments. The Orientation and Mobility Specialist will assess mobility needs, design individualized instruction plans, and work closely with teachers, families, and related service providers to support student independence and access.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility or related field National Certification in Orientation and Mobility (COMS) preferred or required depending on district Florida certification or eligibility as required by the school district and Florida Department of Education Previous school-based or pediatric experience preferred Ability to pass background check and fingerprinting Strong communication, collaboration, and instructional skills
Job Duties:
Provide direct instruction in safe and independent travel skills Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments Develop individualized mobility plans aligned with IEP goals Train students in use of mobility tools, techniques, and environmental awareness Collaborate with TVIs, teachers, therapists, and families Support students in school, home, and community-based settings as appropriate Maintain accurate documentation and progress monitoring
