Job Description
Mercy is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will assess, plan, and implement therapeutic interventions to help patients regain independence in daily activities. You'll collaborate with an interprofessional team, educate patients and families, and document individualized treatment plans. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations using standardized and non-standardized assessments. Develop individualized plans of care with measurable, patient-centered functional goals. Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions to improve patients' independence in self-care, work, school, and leisure activities. Train patients and caregivers in the use of adaptive equipment, compensatory techniques, and environmental modifications. Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safety strategies, and techniques to maximize function and prevent injury. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, and other team members to coordinate care and discharge planning. Document evaluations, daily treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries accurately and in a timely manner in the EMR system. Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans based on clinical outcomes, and participate in interdisciplinary case conferences. Ensure compliance with professional, legal, and regulatory standards, including state practice acts and organizational policies. Participate in continuing education, competency training, and quality improvement projects to enhance clinical practice and patient outcomes. Required Skills Occupational therapy evaluation and treatment planning Knowledge of functional assessment tools and standardized tests Neuromuscular re-education and therapeutic exercise Activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental ADL retraining Upper extremity rehabilitation and fine motor skills training Cognitive and perceptual rehabilitation techniques Adaptive equipment selection and training Splinting and orthotic fabrication or fitting (as applicable) Patient and caregiver education Interdisciplinary collaboration and communication Clinical documentation and electronic medical records (EMR) proficiency Time management and caseload prioritization Knowledge of safety standards and infection control practices Understanding of rehabilitation, acute care, and/or outpatient therapy workflows
