Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a vital, rewarding role as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist supporting students' independence and success. This contract opportunity focuses on empowering learners, providing essential services both directly and through consultation. Your expertise will make a meaningful impact in a supportive educational environment. You'll work with a manageable caseload—7 students receiving direct O&M services and 2 additional students on a consultative basis. Collaborate with school teams and families while ensuring each student's unique needs are addressed and their confidence strengthened. What we look for in candidates: Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Experience working in school settings or with children and adolescents Strong communication and collaboration abilities Understanding of current best practices in O&M instruction Adaptability and creativity when developing and delivering individualized plans Commitment to fostering independence and safety for students with visual impairments Key responsibilities include: Conducting assessments and developing individualized O&M strategies Providing direct instruction to students, supporting independent travel in various settings Consulting with educational teams, families, and other professionals to optimize student support Documenting services, progress, and ongoing needs clearly and efficiently Attending IEP and team meetings and contributing informed recommendations Staying current with O&M advancements and integrating evidence-based approaches Embrace the flexibility and professional growth that comes with a contract role, and take pride in shaping brighter futures for students with visual impairments.
