This Vision Therapy Assistant position is an apprenticeship position that can lead to advancement and eventually becoming a Certified Optometric Vision Therapist. This rewarding position involves working with children and adults to improve their visual system in order to enhance their quality of life. We are looking for someone who is a good problem solver, reliable, has the ability to learn new things, work independently, and multitask. Must enjoy working with kids, but we do see a number of adults as well. As a small office, this position requires a mix of both patient care and administrative/front desk duties. Job Description:

Performs a wide variety of therapy techniques on patients of varying ability with a confident nature. Starting as an assistant and evolving into working independently with patients as a vision therapist. Opportunity for certification is available. After an intense training period, will have good working knowledge of why the variety of tests and therapy techniques are performed in order to modify them appropriately. This involves good observation skills, ability to adjust the activities or approach to patient needs and creative problem-solving skills. Pretesting new patients prior to seeing the doctor. Collection and documentation of patient test results. Communicating patient information to the overseeing optometrist. Communicating home activities with parents/guardians. Ability to enter doctor findings into EHR. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Office assistant duties include answering phones, scheduling appointments, and collecting fees.

Will train:

Optician duties include fitting and dispensing eyeglasses.

Requirements:

Previous experience in optometry, education/childcare, mental health/psychology, rehabilitation/therapy or other health-related field. Experience/knowledge with sensory regulation for ADHD or autism spectrum helpful. Must enjoy working with children. Associate's or Bachelor's in a related field or 5 years of relevant work experience. Must be organized and able to multitask. Must be able to work and problem-solve independently and have excellent communication skills. Although there is plenty of opportunity for hands-on learning, the ability to learn via videos is required. Training will be a mix of video, observation, one-to-one instruction, and hands-on instruction. Hours can be negotiated. 32 hours for full-time benefits. Must be available until 5:30PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. DO NOT apply if you are only interested in short-term employment.
