Job Description The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for providing direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients in the home setting. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to implement a comprehensive plan of care with the physicianProvides therapeutic care to help restore function and daily activities of living under the direction of the occupational therapist (OTR) in accordance with the physician's plan of careParticipates in the education and delivery of the exercise program developed by the OTR for strengthening and controlling of the upper extremitiesInstructs patients and caregivers regarding plan of treatment, basic living skills and proper use of adaptive equipmentObserves and documents patients' progress and health status in a timely manner via electronic medical record (EMR)Provides teaching techniques, such as, the proper method of moving from a bed into a wheelchair, and the best ways to stretch and limber muscles to improve patients' quality of lifeParticipates in weekly case conference ensure effective coordination of care as well as monthly therapy in-servicesAssesses patient environment and initiates actions to prevent accidents and promote safety in the home setting
