Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our dynamic healthcare team on a full-time basis. In this vital role, you will assist licensed occupational therapists in providing comprehensive therapy services to diverse patient populations, including pediatrics, geriatrics, and individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders or disabilities. Your expertise will help improve patients' functional independence, support their recovery, and enhance their quality of life across various settings such as inpatient units, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, and home health environments. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference through compassionate care and collaborative teamwork. Responsibilities Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility to promote patient independence. Implement treatment plans developed by licensed occupational therapists, ensuring adherence to prescribed interventions. Support pediatric occupational therapy programs focused on childhood developmental delays and autism spectrum disorder. Help facilitate therapy sessions in various settings including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, and home health visits. Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals to coordinate care plans and share relevant patient progress updates. Conduct patient transport within facilities safely using manual handling techniques while maintaining patient comfort and safety. Document care activities accurately in care records, ensuring compliance with medical terminology standards and confidentiality protocols. Assist with care documentation related to therapy sessions, progress notes, and treatment outcomes for ongoing evaluation. Support patients with acute care needs by assisting in mobility and functional activities under supervision. Engage in patient communication to provide education on therapy processes and address caregiver questions effectively. Qualifications Valid certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) from an accredited program. Prior experience working in inpatient settings, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, or home health environments is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to assist with ADLs and implement treatment plans across diverse patient populations. Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and medical imaging relevant to occupational therapy practice. Experience working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism or childhood developmental delays is advantageous. Familiarity with care for clients with disabilities across age groups including pediatrics and geriatrics. Strong communication skills for effective caregiver and client interactions; ability to collaborate seamlessly within multidisciplinary teams. Ability to perform manual handling safely while supporting patient mobility and transfers. Acute care experience is a plus for managing complex cases requiring immediate intervention.
