In this vital role, you will provide exceptional customer service by assisting patients with eyewear selections, fittings, and adjustments while ensuring compliance with all health regulation policies. Your expertise in optics, medical terminology, and laboratory procedures will support the delivery of high-quality vision care. As a Licensed Optician, you will play a key role in helping patients see clearly and feel confident in their eyewear choices. Responsibilities Assist customers in selecting eyewear frames and lenses that meet their needs and preferences, ensuring proper fit and comfort through precise eyewear fittings and adjustments Dispense spectacle lenses accurately by interpreting prescriptions, conducting lens measurements, and verifying optical specifications Provide expert guidance on eyewear options, including lens types, coatings, and frame styles, while promoting retail sales opportunities Operate POS systems and cash registers efficiently to process transactions smoothly while maintaining accurate financial records Maintain laboratory procedures for lens cutting, edging, and mounting to ensure high-quality optical products Adhere strictly to HIPAA guidelines, clinical confidentiality policies, and medical coding standards when handling patient records and sensitive information Support clinic operations by taking vital signs when necessary, updating electronic medical records (EMR/EHR), and assisting with basic medical terminology understanding for patient interactions Ensure compliance with state healthcare regulations and health regulation policies through diligent recordkeeping and procedural adherence Perform eyewear frame adjustments and repairs to optimize fit and durability for each patient Contribute to a welcoming environment by delivering outstanding customer service that emphasizes patience, professionalism, and empathy—especially when working with pediatric or senior care patients Qualifications Valid state licensure as a Licensed Optician with active certification to dispense eyewear legally Proven experience in optical retail or clinical settings with knowledge of ophthalmology principles and anatomy of the eye Familiarity with optical laboratory equipment, spectacle lens dispensing techniques, and eyewear fitting procedures Strong understanding of medical terminology related to vision care and physiology knowledge relevant to eye health Experience operating EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for managing medical records securely Competence in retail sales techniques combined with basic math skills for calculating costs, discounts, and insurance billing codes Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and health regulation policies governing optometry practices Ability to perform detailed laboratory work including lens edging, frame adjustment, and aseptic techniques when needed Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and compassionately across diverse patient populations Join us if you're passionate about improving vision health through expert optical care combined with exceptional customer service.
