PRACTICE OVERVIEW & DETAILS

our practice (TM) is a large private group with locations in 23 states, led by our director Kevin Carr, MD. Locations are interdisciplinary clinics. TM contracts with vendors through the VA, so this is a private group and not a VA or government position. We also partner with Yale University for research and multiple government agencies to provide health screening service.



This position is for a part-time W-2 position of 20 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible and can be done in 4, 8, or 10-hour shifts, with no nights or weekends and the candidate chooses their days. All equipment is provided.



The provider will perform VA Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams, which are medical only, problem focused, medico-legal exams. The provider can use their medical knowledge and diagnostic skills to the fullest extent without any of the perceived hassles of traditional practice modes like optical, refractions, insurance, treatments, monitoring or follow-up care. The position is low volume with exams scheduled every 1.5 hours. The provider will also research and draft medical opinions when requested by the VA that includes medical based research.



Requirements are a valid SD license.



Skills for the best suited candidate would include: Strong medical diagnostic skills-Excellent written and verbal communication skills-Ability to work independently-Punctuality and dependability-Comfort with lengthy computer based chart reviews-Ability to conduct reviews of and understanding of valid medical research-Professional demeanor with strong work ethic and positive patient relationship and management skillsMy elevator pitch is typically: " Looking for a part-time optometrist with strong diagnostic skills to perform problem focused medical only exams to evaluate active duty members leaving service and Veterans for potential disabilities and chronic ocular conditions for VA/VBA compensation and pension exams. There is no prescribing, treating, refracting, insurance or optical involved! Use your medical optometry education to help those who served our country."There is the potential for relocation and sign-on bonus but will need management approval on a case-by-case basis.
