Madison, AL Job Details Part-time $22 an hour 18 hours ago Qualifications Customer communication High school diploma or GED Full Job Description The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and engaging fitness classes or sessions for YMCA members of varying fitness levels and ages. The instructor creates a supportive, inclusive atmosphere that reflects the core values of the
YMCA:
Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Essential Functions:
Lead group fitness classes (e.g., strength training, cardio, yoga, cycling) or provide individual fitness instruction. Ensure participant safety by monitoring proper form, offering modifications, and educating on safe exercise practices. Greet and interact with members in a friendly, professional manner to promote a positive YMCA experience. Prepare class routines and maintain consistency while keeping classes fresh and engaging. Enforce all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to safety, health, and conduct. Set up and break down class equipment before and after each session. Respond to member questions and provide guidance on fitness-related topics. Maintain accurate attendance and incident reports as needed. Attend mandatory staff meetings, training, and continuing education.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Ability to lead and demonstrate physical activities for extended periods. May require lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, standing, and moving around for the duration of a shift. Noise levels may vary; fitness music and equipment use can create a loud environment.
Minimum age:
18 years. High school diploma or equivalent required. CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire). Nationally recognized group fitness or personal training certification (e.g., ACE, NASM, AFAA, ACSM). Previous experience leading fitness classes or training clients is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain a welcoming environment
