Job Description

WHO WE ARE
The FIT Lab has been changing lives in Hoboken & Jersey City since 2013. We run one-on-one personal training and small group personal training for busy professionals
  • a lot of them with young kids, demanding jobs, and a history of starting and stopping.
We are not a class gym. Small groups are capped at seven, every member has a file we actually keep up to date, and every session is adjusted to the person in front of you. Most members start with at least six one-on-one sessions before they ever step into a small group, so by the time they're training together, they can get incredible long term value. There are 37 gyms within a mile of the Fit Lab. None has the reputation that we have, and a lot of members stay for years.
That only happens one way:
our coaches are professionals who genuinely care.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR A
coach who wants this to be a career, not a side gig. This role starts part-time, roughly 10-24 hours per week, covering [early mornings / evenings / midday]. As you build your book and we add small group times, those hours grow. We are close to capacity right now and adding sessions
  • the path to full-time is real, and it's the reason we're hiring.
Experience helps, but it isn't the deciding factor. We can teach our systems. We can't teach someone to show up on time, take feedback well, and genuinely care how a member's week went. Likeability and integrity are paramount.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Onboarding involves extensive shadowing and self-study for most candidates. Coach one-on-one sessions and small groups of up to seven, adjusting the work in real time so every member is appropriately challenged. Teach and hold the line on form. Members come to us because other gyms let them get hurt or let them plateau. Keep member files current
  • loads, progressions, injuries, what's going on in their life outside the gym.
This is how we tailor sessions to meet our members where they are. Stay in contact between sessions. Our coaches make personalized touchpoints with their members every week. Help members change what happens outside the gym: sleep, food, steps, stress, and consistency. Contribute to the team. We share notes, cover for each other, and give each other feedback.
QUALIFICATIONS
Nationally recognized certification (NASM, ACE, NSCA, ACSM) or equivalent
  • required/preferred Current CPR/AED certification] Foundation in biomechanics.
Solid understanding of exercise progressions and regressions. Strong communication skills — you can explain something three different ways until it lands. Comfortable coaching the general population of adults, including beginners and members training around old injuries. Beginner's mindset.
Willing to keep learning:
reading, workshops, continuing education. Familiarity with motivational interviewing or behavior change coaching is a plus.
WHAT WE OFFER
$45
  • $50 for 1-on-1 and up to $105 for Small Group Sessions We have a library of valuable continuing education and we offer up to $400 / year for continuing education Stipends for up to 14 PTO days per year. Additional benefits after a year of full-time work. Real coaching development
  • you'll get feedback, not just a schedule.
If you dream of opening your own gym some day, you'll learn how to do it here. Not only opening a gym, but how to run it profitably, A full team of coaches to learn from and support you, not a solo booth in a big-box gym.
Growth:
we're at capacity and planning to scale. The coaches here now will be first in line for what comes next.
MAKE SURE YOU'RE COMFORTABLE WITH
Early mornings and evenings. That's when busy professionals train. We do care about not burning our coaches out. We will work towards building you a set shift. Giving and receiving direct feedback. We'd rather have the uncomfortable conversation now than lose a member later. Details. Names, loads, notes, follow-ups. The small things are the job. Being the supporting character. The member is the one for whom we craft the program for and they're the ones who get the win.
