Job Description

Urban Youth Kings & Queens' mission is to educate and empower Philadelphia's children and adolescents through wellness, sports, and after-school programs to recognize their talents, pursue college, and become leaders in their communities. Purpose The City of Philadelphia's Mayor's Office of Education and Office of Children and Families, and School District have jointly launched an Extended Day/Extended Year (EDEY) initiative. EDEY was established to support working families in need of school-based programs that better fit their hours, create safe spaces for students to spend before and after school, offer new enrichment opportunities to students who are the most underserved, and provide students exposure to experiences, career options, sports and other activities to help them identify interests and enhance their connections to school. The Group Leader will work approximately 2
  • 3 hours a day, Monday
  • Friday between the hours of 3pm and 6pm.

  • 19128 The Group Leader reports to the Site Director and Site Supervisor.
Group Leaders are responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of daily activities. Primarily, the Group Leader will ensure student safety; support and assist in all activities; assist with attendance; snack distribution; site set up and break down; and maintain connection with parents and school personnel. Group Leaders are responsible for the implementation and evaluation of program activities and services and will work with the team in teaching, coaching, mentoring, and facilitating Sports & Recreational activities and athletic development. The Group Leader will attend all required meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare materials, lesson plans and execute activity plans Support Site Director on curriculum structuring and programmatic implementation Offer structured activities and engage participants in fun recreational programming Oversee homework for up to 30 minutes per day Ensure participants are offered a healthy snack every day Assist with recruitment and enrollment of students into the program Maintain a clean and orderly environment and ensure that youth are safe at all times. Assist in maintaining students' records and overall program documentation as required Assist with the management and discipline of students Work cooperatively with program staff using open communication and problem-solving skills Attend all designated orientation sessions, and all mandated trainings and meetings of professional development
Education and Experience:
An associate degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and 2 years of experience working with children. High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children and youth in an educational/recreational setting (Teacher; Coach; Teacher's Aid) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Conflict resolution skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint Excellent organization skills including the ability to prioritize work
Knowledge Of:
Child development and education support best practices. Safe practices in classroom and playground activities. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Basic record-keeping techniques.
Ability To:
Communicate clearly and effectively with children, families, and staff. Lead a team with patience, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity. Plan and execute daily activities with flexibility and structure. Work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Operate office and instructional equipment (computers, copiers, etc.). Ability to manage purpose and vision of the program Ability to multi-task and be flexible to meet program needs Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, children, parents, Principals, Supervisors, and Administrators. Be culturally sensitive and have the ability to relate well and effectively in a diverse environment. Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks promptly. Work while standing, sitting, and/or walking.
Physical Demands:
Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching. Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds.
License and Requirements:
PA Child Abuse Clearance PA Criminal Background Check Mandated Child Abuse Training FBI Clearance ACT 168 Health Assessment Willingness to obtain additional trainings or certificates required by the organization or district, when needed
Preferred First Aid & CPR Certification Pay:
From $18.00 per hour Expected hours: 6.0
