Both certified and non-certified Pharmacy Technicians are encouraged to apply. Applicants who hold an active Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) certification may be considered for the certified classification. All applicants must have at least one full year of hands-on experience working as a Pharmacy Technician in a retail pharmacy setting. Experience as a Medication Technician (Med Tech), Medical Assistant, CNA, caregiver, medication aide, or in another healthcare position does not satisfy this requirement. Pharmacy registration alone is not considered certification. The Pharmacy Technician will assist pharmacists with preparing, packaging, labeling, and dispensing medications; operating automated pharmacy systems; and maintaining accuracy, safety, and compliance with VA, CMOP, and federal standards. This position directly supports the timely delivery of prescription medications to Veterans nationwide.

Second shift:

3:30 p.m.-12:00 a.m.

Overtime:

Approximately 15-30 hours per month, depending on operational needs Additional scheduling: Employees may be required to work extended daily hours, Saturdays, or on or around federal holidays AIS provides required equipment and administrative and scheduling support Key Responsibilities Pharmaceutical Operations Assist pharmacists with preparing, packaging, labeling, and dispensing medications. Process and prepare prescription orders accurately for pharmacist verification. Maintain complete and accurate medication-processing and dispensing records. Package, label, and distribute medication doses according to CMOP and VA procedures. Fill and stock medications in automated devices and designated storage areas. Maintain inventory levels, stock shelves, rotate stock, and monitor expiration dates. Process prescriptions in specialized areas, including Controlled Substances, Total Control Area (TCA) replenishment, and manual hand-count stations. Verify medications and products by drug name, strength, and National Drug Code (NDC) number. Technology and Equipment Operate and monitor pharmacy automation systems, including Autofill devices, Baker Cells, Kalish Cells, A-frames, repackaging equipment, and electronic scales. Use computer systems and scanning equipment to select and process the correct medications and products. Perform first-level preventive maintenance on automated equipment, including cleaning, vacuuming, and basic troubleshooting or minor adjustments. Compliance and Safety Follow all applicable Standard Operating Procedures, quality-assurance protocols, and safety requirements. Handle hazardous materials and hazardous waste in accordance with VA, CMOP, and federal standards. Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality, and data-security requirements. Complete all required VA background, credentialing, security, and facility-access processes. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. At least one full year of hands-on Pharmacy Technician experience in a retail pharmacy setting. Ability to demonstrate that Pharmacy Technician duties were a primary function of the position, including activities such as processing prescriptions, preparing or packaging medications, maintaining pharmacy inventory, or supporting pharmacists. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Basic typing and computer skills. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers and facility personnel. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently, as required under 38 U.S.C. §§ 7402(d) and 7407(d). Ability to satisfy all VA background, security, credentialing, and facility-access requirements. A REAL ID-compliant driver's license or state identification card, or a valid passport. Medication Technician, medication aide, Medical Assistant, CNA, caregiver, assisted-living medication administration, and similar healthcare experience will not be accepted as a substitute for the required Pharmacy Technician experience.

Certification Classification Certification is not required for all openings. Applicants may be considered for one of the following classifications:

Certified Pharmacy Technician:

Must hold a current, active PTCB or ExCPT certification.

Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician:

Does not currently hold an active PTCB or ExCPT certification. State pharmacy registration does not constitute national certification. Registered Pharmacy Technicians who do not hold an active PTCB or ExCPT certification will be considered non-certified. Preferred Qualifications Additional experience in a hospital, mail-order, high-volume, VA, or Department of Defense pharmacy environment. Experience operating pharmacy automation equipment. Familiarity with automated inventory and prescription-processing systems. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to push or pull up to 150 pounds using a rolling cart or pallet jack. Ability to repeatedly lift totes weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to stand or sit for 8-10 hours. Ability to stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday. Visual acuity sufficient to read computer screens, labels, and scanning equipment. Ability to perform the position's essential functions safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pay:

$21.87 - $23.00 per hour
