Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. Job Summary Serves as aide for the laboratory and performs numerous functions in maintaining the cleanliness of the laboratory, such as cleaning lab equipment, glassware, instruments, sinks, etc., using solvents, brushes, etc. Collects blood from patients and assumes responsibility for safety and comfort of patient, following established standards and practices. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent education. Required to maintain a current Driver's license. Previous experience is not essential, but would prefer a person with previous healthcare experience such as a nurse assistant. This position would require approximately 2 months training in a clinical lab to be capable of normal productivity.
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Must be knowledgeable of the process of phlebotomy technique and understand the proper use of equipment. The patient population must be considered when assessing job knowledge required from the employee.
ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS
Finger dexterity required to manipulate small objects, such as test tube and microscope slides during cleaning and sterilization duties. Manual dexterity required to place and arrange articles in cabinets and on shelves. Worker must also handle laboratory glassware carefully to avoid breakage. A preference for activities dealing with things and objects to clean laboratory equipment. A preference for routine, organized activities to assist medical technologist. Work situation involves doing things only under close supervision, allowing very little room for independent action in working out job problems. Must be able to communicate with people and meet the public with a pleasant and professional attitude. Must be neat and able to work independently. Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
