Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety
Collect, label, and store specimens such as blood, urine, or fecal samples following established procedures
Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously to patients
Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes accurately
Centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens for transport according to protocol
Record maintenance data, update patient information, and ensure specimen labeling accuracy
Check test requisitions against patient scripts to guarantee correctness
Store samples at appropriate temperatures and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity
Comply with OSHA and Department of Environmental Protection regulations, including proper PPE use
Attend annual department training and stay current on laboratory procedures
Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including specimen decontamination and equipment maintenance Required Skills
Proven experience performing blood draws and specimen collection
Knowledge of laboratory procedures including centrifuging, labeling, and specimen storage
Ability to explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients
Familiarity with specimen packaging, labeling, and transport protocols
Understanding of OSHA and other regulatory standards related to laboratory safety
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Good communication skills for patient interaction and record-keeping Additional Skills & Requirements
Certified or licensed phlebotomist preferred; certification in phlebotomy is a plus
Experience working in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting is preferred
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
Flexibility to work various shifts, including occasional evenings or weekends
High school diploma or equivalent required; formal phlebotomy training preferred
