Full Job Description Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist Location:

Full-time Position Summary We are seeking a compassionate, dependable and detail-oriented Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist to join our growing Internal Medicine and primary care practice. This individual will support physicians in delivering efficient, high-quality patient care while performing phlebotomy, clinical and administrative duties. The ideal candidate is professional, organized, comfortable working in a new practice environment and committed to creating an exceptional patient experience. Clinical Responsibilities Welcome patients and prepare them for examinations and procedures. Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, medication history, allergies and reason for visit. Review and update medical, surgical, family and social histories. Assist physicians with examinations, minor procedures and treatments. Perform EKGs, point-of-care testing, nebulizer treatments and other approved clinical services. Administer medications and injections as authorized and delegated by the supervising physician. Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are properly stocked. Clean and disinfect examination rooms and reusable clinical equipment. Follow infection-control, OSHA and bloodborne-pathogen standards. Maintain emergency supplies and monitor medication and equipment expiration dates. Provide patients with physician-approved instructions and educational materials. Respond appropriately to urgent clinical situations and notify the physician immediately. Phlebotomy Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection safely and efficiently. Verify patient identity and laboratory orders before specimen collection. Select the proper tubes, collection sequence and specimen-handling method. Accurately label specimens in the presence of the patient. Centrifuge, process, package and store specimens according to laboratory requirements. Prepare specimens for courier pickup and maintain required logs. Monitor laboratory supplies and expiration dates. Follow procedures for difficult draws, needlestick injuries and exposure incidents. Maintain a clean, organized and compliant laboratory collection area. Document specimen collection and testing accurately in the EHR. Administrative Responsibilities Document patient information accurately and promptly in the EHR. Process medication refill requests according to practice protocols. Obtain prior authorizations when assigned. Communicate laboratory and imaging results under physician direction. Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing and follow-up appointments. Request and upload outside medical records. Answer patient calls and portal messages professionally. Assist with scheduling, check-in, check-out and insurance verification when needed. Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Participate in staff meetings, training and quality-improvement initiatives. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Medical Assistant or phlebotomy training program. Demonstrated competency in venipuncture and specimen processing. Current BLS certification or ability to obtain it before beginning clinical duties. Knowledge of infection control, HIPAA and bloodborne-pathogen precautions. Strong communication, organization and customer-service skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment. Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn the practice's EHR. Preferred Qualifications Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential, such as CMA, RMA, CCMA or NCMA. National phlebotomy certification, such as CPT. At least one year of experience in a comparable Internal Medicine, family medicine, primary care or an outpatient clinic. Experience with EKGs, injections, point-of-care testing and prior authorizations. Bilingual English/Spanish skills. Familiarity with Medicare, commercial insurance and referral workflows. Ability to respond promptly during medical emergencies.
