Collects patient specimens, correctly identifies patients, transports specimens, and performs phlebotomy. Responsibilities include organization of phlebotomy batches, managing workflow, restocking supplies and shadowing phlebotomy trainees. Performs specimen processing as needed.
Education, Licensure, Certifications, and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Training in a formal Phlebotomy program required. Two years of health care experience preferred. Demonstrates ability to collect inpatient and outpatient adult/pediatric specimens in hospital and outpatient preferred.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to collect blood samples from both adult and pediatric patients using venipuncture and capillary collections in various clinical settings. Ability to meet consistent and punctual attendance. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face. Duties:
Performs blood drawing/collection using a variety of techniques. Patient samples are collected with minimal discomfort to the Patient samples are collected in a timely, productive Collects samples from infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Patient collections are received correctly in computer system. Information related to samples drawn, collection date and times is documented correctly. Patient samples are packaged correctly for safe transport when needed. Patient samples are delivered to proper locations in a timely Demonstrates knowledge of quality, safety, and compliance programs Quality issues are reported to a supervisor in a timely manner. Suggestions for process improvement are submitted for review. Compliance guidelines are applied to all testing and reporting activities. Laboratory operations are conducted to always ensure a safe working environment. Performs area specific support and clinical activities. Accuracy and quality are maintained for activities. Specific support functions are handled in an organized and timely fashion. Specific support functions are handled in accordance with departmental and organizational policies and procedures.
