Make a difference where accuracy, compassion, and accountability matter. Quinault Wellness Center is looking for a Urinalysis Technician to join our team and play an important role in supporting safe, effective substance use disorder treatment. This position is responsible for the accurate, timely, and confidential collection, processing, documentation, and tracking of urinalysis and other substance-use testing specimens. As a Urinalysis Technician, you will be an important part of the care team, working closely with clinical and counseling staff to support treatment services and ensure testing processes are handled with professionalism, consistency, and attention to detail. This is a hands-on position where accuracy matters, confidentiality matters, and the work you do directly supports patients on their recovery journey.
What You'll Do:
Collect urine specimens and conduct direct observation when required by established testing protocols and procedures. Verify patient identification and ensure specimens are properly labeled, documented, secured, and handled. Maintain strict chain-of-custody procedures to protect the integrity and accuracy of specimens and test results. Perform or assist with authorized urinalysis and substance-use testing procedures in accordance with established protocols and training. Monitor and track testing activity, including specimen status, documentation, and results. Accurately document testing and collection information in the patient's Electronic Health Record (EHR), TARGET, and other required systems. Complete, process, scan, and maintain required testing forms, records, and documentation. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information, test results, and protected health information in accordance with
HIPAA, 42 CFR
Part 2, and organizational requirements. Identify and promptly report specimen discrepancies, collection concerns, chain-of-custody issues, unexpected results, or other testing irregularities to the appropriate supervisor or clinical staff. Monitor inventory and maintain adequate supplies for urinalysis and substance-use testing; initiate reordering before supplies become depleted. Maintain testing areas, equipment, and supplies in a clean, organized, secure, and appropriate condition. Provide documentation and administrative support to counseling and clinical staff related to testing activities. Assist with reports, data entry, and tracking related to urinalysis and substance-use testing. Attend required staff meetings, training, and planning activities. Participate in cross-training and support other operational needs when qualified and assigned. Maintain dependable attendance, punctuality, professional conduct, and appropriate patient boundaries. Perform other duties as assigned. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, dependable, organized, comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment, and committed to treating every patient with dignity and respect.
Required:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience in healthcare, substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health, laboratory/specimen collection, or a related administrative setting is preferred. Knowledge of substance use disorder and its impact on individuals, families, and communities. Ability to learn and consistently follow urinalysis collection, specimen handling, testing, and chain-of-custody procedures. Knowledge of
HIPAA, PHI, 42 CFR
Part 2, and applicable confidentiality requirements, or the ability to learn and apply these requirements. Proficiency with computers, Electronic Health Records (EHRs), databases, and standard office software. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately enter, review, maintain, and retrieve records. Ability to perform basic mathematical functions and accurately complete documentation. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work effectively with frequent interruptions. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, coworkers, providers, counselors, and outside agencies. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and demonstrate ethical, respectful, and professional conduct. Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of trauma, historical experiences, family, community, and social factors on wellness and recovery. Ability to recognize and promptly report discrepancies, unusual circumstances, or concerns to the appropriate supervisor. Must maintain regular and dependable attendance and punctuality. Must support the mission, vision, and values of Quinault Community Health and Quinault Wellness Center. Must comply with all organizational policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, safety standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
Preferred:
