Laboratory The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and other laboratory specimens from patients of all ages while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and specimen integrity. This role supports quality patient care by providing accurate specimen collection and delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced hospital environment. Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures on patients of all ages, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Accurately identify patients and verify specimen collection orders. Label, process, and transport specimens according to established laboratory procedures. Ensure proper specimen handling and storage to maintain specimen integrity. Explain procedures to patients and address concerns in a professional and compassionate manner. Collect specimens in inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, and specialty care settings as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies. Enter patient and specimen information into laboratory information systems accurately. Follow infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards at all times.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent. Obtain CPR certification within 90 days of hire, and maintains it. Strong knowledge of specimen collection techniques and patient identification procedures.
