Job Description
OhioHealth is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will support Physical Therapists in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care, implement treatment plans, assist with therapeutic exercises, monitor patient progress, and document outcomes accurately. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient mobility, function, and quality of life. Responsibilities Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, following established plans of care and treatment goals. Implement therapeutic exercises, gait training, balance activities, and functional mobility interventions to improve patients' strength, endurance, and independence. Assist patients with transfers, bed mobility, and use of assistive devices, ensuring safe techniques and adherence to fall-prevention protocols. Apply appropriate therapeutic modalities, such as heat, cold, and electrical stimulation, as delegated by the supervising Physical Therapist and in accordance with Ohio regulations and Ohio Health policies. Observe and report changes in patient status, tolerance to treatment, and progress toward goals to the supervising Physical Therapist and the interdisciplinary care team. Accurately document treatments, patient responses, and functional outcomes in the electronic medical record in a timely and compliant manner. Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, proper body mechanics, and strategies to maximize safety and independence at home and in the community. Collaborate with Physical Therapists, nurses, physicians, and other allied health professionals to coordinate patient care and discharge planning. Support an inclusive, compassionate care environment by demonstrating cultural sensitivity, respect, and effective communication with patients, families, and team members. Participate in ongoing professional development, in-services, and training offered by Ohio Health to enhance clinical skills and support evidence-based practice. Maintain treatment areas and equipment in a clean, safe, and organized manner, following infection control and safety guidelines. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and uphold Ohio Health's mission as a not-for-profit healthcare organization serving communities across Ohio. Required Skills Therapeutic exercise implementation Manual therapy techniques within scope of practice Gait training and balance interventions Use of therapeutic modalities (e.g., heat, ice, ultrasound, e-stim) as delegated Functional mobility and transfer training Patient and family education on home exercise programs Accurate clinical documentation and EMR use Vital sign monitoring and basic patient assessment Infection prevention and safety protocols Time management and caseload prioritization Interdisciplinary team collaboration Cultural competence and trauma-informed care Basic orthopedic and neurologic rehab concepts Post-surgical rehabilitation support Patient handling and safe body mechanics
