Job Summary The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) administers therapeutic techniques and evidence-based interventions designed to improve, maintain, or restore physical function for individuals affected by age, injury, disease, or congenital conditions. This position focuses on delivering safe, high-quality therapy services to support optimal patient recovery and independence.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Care & Interventions :
Administer treatment methods, modalities, and therapeutic interventions—focusing on posture, balance, locomotion, strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination, pain management, and daily functional abilities—under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
Patient Progress & Evaluation :
Assist the Physical Therapist in evaluating treatment plan effectiveness; monitor patient responses, provide timely clinical feedback, and collaborate on adjustments to achieve targeted outcomes.
Patient & Family Education :
Educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic exercises, movement techniques, and self-management strategies that promote recovery and long-term functional improvement.
Individualized Delivery :
Tailor therapeutic approaches to align with each patient's specific age, developmental level, cultural background, and personal goals.
Documentation & Compliance :
Complete clear, concise, and accurate clinical documentation—including treatment notes, progress tracking, and discharge recommendations—in strict compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration :
Partner with the broader healthcare team to coordinate care, participate in discharge planning, and recommend ongoing therapy or supportive services.
Safety & Environment :
Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients and staff by strictly adhering to infection control guidelines and safety protocols.
General Duties :
Maintain regular and reliable attendance, adhere to all facility policies, and perform other clinical or administrative duties as assigned.
Must possess an active Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license in the state of employment (New Mexico) or be actively licensed/eligible for immediate licensure prior to start date. (Required)
Certification :
Active Basic Life Support (BLS / BCLS) certification required.
Experience :
0-1 years of physical therapy experience (New graduates are encouraged to apply!).
Clinical Knowledge :
Solid understanding of physical therapy techniques, modalities, and therapeutic interventions.
Skills & Competencies :
Strong collaborative abilities to work effectively with supervising Physical Therapists and interdisciplinary care teams. Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for accurate documentation and treatment execution. High commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality (HIPAA) and legal/regulatory standards. Physical stamina required to assist, position, and transfer patients during therapeutic exercises and activities.
