The PA performs patient evaluations, assists in surgical procedures, performs procedures independently as permitted by state law, and provides post-operative care. The PA serves as a vital member of the orthopedic team, contributing to high-quality patient outcomes and efficient clinic and surgical operations. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive patient history and physical examinations in orthopedic clinic settings Order and interpret diagnostic imaging (X-rays, MRI, CT scans, ultrasound) Develop initial assessment and treatment plans in consultation with supervising physician Perform orthopedic procedures including joint injections, aspirations, and minor surgical procedures Assist in orthopedic surgeries including fracture reduction, joint replacement, arthroscopy, and sports medicine procedures Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care Monitor wound healing and manage complications Provide patient education regarding treatment options, rehabilitation, and preventive care Document patient encounters accurately and comprehensively in electronic health records Coordinate care with physical therapy and other allied health services Perform first assists or primary surgery as permitted by state regulations and physician delegation Maintain current knowledge of orthopedic procedures, evidence-based practices, and advances in the field Required Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program Current PA-C certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Valid medical license in state(s) of practice Current CPR/BLS certification Minimum 2 years clinical experience preferred; new graduates considered with additional training Strong knowledge of orthopedic anatomy and pathophysiology Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment Preferred Qualifications Experience in orthopedic surgery or orthopedic clinic setting EMR proficiency with surgical scheduling systems using ECW Physical Demands & Work Environment This position requires prolonged standing during surgical procedures, ability to lift and assist patients, manual dexterity for performing procedures, and the ability to work in sterile surgical environments. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases possible.
