Job Description
Physician Assistant - Smeltzer-Kelly Student Health Center The University of Dubuque is a growing faith-based University that is seeking a part-time Physician Assistant at the Smeltzer-Kelly Student Health Center.
Position Summary:
The Physician Associate (Assistant) at the University of Dubuque's Smeltzer-Kelly Student Health Center provides comprehensive, student-centered primary and acute healthcare services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up care, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and performing select procedures. Working independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, this role develops individualized care plans while promoting wellness, disease prevention, and health education through a holistic approach that supports students' physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The Physician Associate (Assistant) also partners with campus departments to coordinate care, contributes to health promotion and preventive health initiatives, and fosters a welcoming, inclusive, and confidential environment that supports student success and a healthy campus community.
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform direct patient care for University of Dubuque students including diagnostic and therapeutic services at the Smeltzer-Kelly Student Health Center
Function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate healthcare for University of Dubuque's student population
Promote and support health maintenance, disease prevention and wellness strategies across the continuum of care
Perform medical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prescribe, dispense or deliver medications in accordance with state and federal scope of practice laws
Document all aspects of patient care accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) and ensure compliance with billing, regulatory and institutional standards
Initiate and coordinate referrals to specialists, external providers or other campus services as appropriate for continued care
Contribute to the ongoing achievement of Student Health Center goals through active participation in program development, quality improvement and student health initiatives
Maintain current clinical competencies and professional expertise through continuing medical education, certifications and best practices
Maintain excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective patient education, care coordination and documentation
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University's mission

Qualifications:
Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (Physician Associate) program
Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and eligibility for Iowa licensure required
Prior experience working with young adult population is preferred
