The position will predominantly be serving as a first assist in the operating room but occasionally seeing surgical patients in clinic. This position is flexible and will include approximately 10-15 hours/week across three half days preferentially in the mornings. Responsibilities Conduct procedures such as suturing, splinting/casting and aseptic techniques in various clinical settings but predominantly in the operating room as a first assist for orthopedic surgeries. Perform thorough patient assessments including intake, vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history reviews. Assist in diagnostic evaluation by interpreting test results such as laboratory data, imaging reports, and diagnostic procedures. Prescribe medications following HIPAA regulations and collaborate with supervising physicians under established practice agreements. Administer injections or perform ultrasound or fluoroscopic guided procedures when necessary. Document all patient interactions accurately within Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems such as Epic or EclinicalWorks while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals across specialties including infectious disease care, hospice & palliative medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, and occupational health. Experience Prior hospital experience in inpatient or outpatient settings is a plus; experience in emergency room or trauma center environments is highly valued. Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks for documentation and data management. Critical care experience including ICU or polytrauma management enhances your ability to handle complex cases effectively. Hands-on skills in procedures like suturing and splinting are preferred as the part-time role will predominantly be used to first assist an orthopedic surgeon in the operating room like joint replacement surgery, fracture repair and arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery in addition to other extremity surgeries. Knowledge of CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), ICD-9/10 coding systems for accurate billing and documentation. Experience working within hospital medicine or urgent care clinics strengthens your capacity for rapid assessment and treatment of acute conditions. Familiarity with advanced practice provider roles and collaborative practice agreements ensures seamless integration into multidisciplinary teams.
