Job Description

About Valley Pain Service Valley Pain Service is a physician-owned private practice specializing in comprehensive pain management and occupational medicine. We care for patients with chronic pain, spine and musculoskeletal conditions, work-related injuries, and other complex medical needs. Our medical director is board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and has extensive experience in full scope of pain management including both medication and interventional procedures. We value compassionate care, clear communication, clinical excellence, efficiency, and a respectful working environment. Our goal is to help patients improve their function and quality of life while creating a warm, welcoming clinic environment where both patients and staff feel comfortable, respected, and at home. Position Summary We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Physician Assistant to join our practice. The PA will evaluate and manage patients with chronic pain and Washington State workers' compensation/L&I claims under the supervision and mentorship of our medical director (training will be provided). The ideal candidate is clinically thoughtful, organized, comfortable managing patients, and able to complete accurate and timely documentation. Previous experience in pain management, occupational medicine, orthopedics, primary care, or urgent care is preferred; however, candidates with strong clinical skills and a genuine interest in learning pain and occupational medicine are encouraged to apply. We will help you develop specialized expertise in pain management and occupational medicine. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical histories, physical examinations, review of imaging, and assessment of previous treatments. Diagnose and manage chronic pain, spine conditions, joint and musculoskeletal disorders, neuropathic pain, and related functional limitations. Develop individualized treatment plans that may include medications, physical rehabilitation, behavioral health services, complementary therapies, and interventional pain procedures. Provide medication management, including appropriate monitoring of controlled medications in accordance with clinic policies and applicable regulations. Educate patients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medication safety, procedures, activity modification, and self-management strategies. Recommend and coordinate appropriate interventional procedures with the supervising pain physician. Perform selected office-based procedures, when appropriately trained and credentialed, such as trigger-point, joint, or musculoskeletal injections (at your comfort level). Monitor treatment response, functional improvement, medication compliance, and patient outcomes. Other Responsibilities Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record. Review test results, imaging reports, consultation notes, and other clinical records. Respond to patient telephone calls, portal messages, refill requests, and clinical questions in a timely manner. Communicate effectively with referring providers, pharmacies, therapists, attorneys, insurers, and other members of the care team when appropriate. Follow clinic policies regarding controlled substances, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and quality of care. Collaborate closely with the medical director and clinic staff to provide efficient, patient-centered care. Required Qualifications Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current NCCPA certification. Current or eligible Washington State Physician Assistant license. Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain one. Current BLS certification. Strong clinical assessment and medical decision-making skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain professional boundaries while providing compassionate care to patients with complex chronic conditions. Ability to work independently within the PA's scope of practice while collaborating closely with the supervising physician. Strong organizational skills and ability to complete documentation accurately and on time. These qualifications are preferred but not required: One or more years of clinical experience in pain management, occupational medicine, orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, primary care, or urgent care. Familiarity with Washington State L&I claims, Activity Prescription Forms, work restrictions, and return-to-work planning. Experience performing trigger-point, joint, or other musculoskeletal injections. Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary based on experience, qualifications, and work schedule. Malpractice insurance coverage. Employee discount. 401K Training and mentorship in pain management, occupational medicine, and appropriate procedure selection. Predictable outpatient schedule with no calls. Why Join Valley Pain Service? This position offers the opportunity to develop specialized expertise in both chronic pain management and occupational medicine while working directly with experienced, board-certified pain physician. We offer a supportive private-practice environment with opportunities for clinical autonomy, professional development, procedural training, and long-term career growth.
